Job and Contractor Opportunities Log Marketing Manager Job Description General Information Job TitleLog Marketing ManagerLocation41 Saint Bernard StreetSaranac Lake, NY 12983Employee TypeExemptRequired DegreeFour-Year Degree Position Summary Under the direct supervision of a Molpus Woodlands Group (MWG) Property Manager or Director, a Log Marketing Manager is responsible for all functions related to log marketing and harvesting forest products on lands managed by MWG within a specific geographic region. In addition to log marketing and harvesting, a Log Marketing Manager will also perform some land management activities, such as long- and short-term planning, road monitoring and maintenance, as well as evaluating harvest stands for regeneration. All properties will be managed to comply with state Best Management Practices and adhere to MWG’s SFI® program. Marketing and harvesting functions may include evaluating, negotiating, contracting, scheduling, monitoring, and auditing activities associated with short and/or long-term timber sales contracts. Essential Functions Provides log marketing and harvesting leadership for the MWG staff within a specific geographic region. Assists in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual budgeting. Assists in preparation of 5-year plans for the land management, marketing, and harvesting functions within the specific region. Negotiation, organization and administration of all log supply agreements and log sale contracts. Log inventory management and accounting of all log sale activities Log load accountability and security Accounting functions including receivables, invoice review and processing, and meetings with auditors. Provides information for MWG’s accounting department. Supervise harvesting and log preparation (trimming, cleaning-up and otherwise improving presentation of the log) to effectively sort and market logs to the highest value. The primary objective is to maximize revenue from log sales. Negotiate the sale of forest products from the lands of MWG clients with the specific geographic region. Coordinates with MWG’s legal and accounting departments on the contract process and sale of forest products. Implements strategies to ensure loggers properly merchandize timber harvested from MWG managed lands. Ensure loggers maintain SFI Implementation Committee (SIC) sponsored professional logger training to maintain compliance under MWG’s SFI® program. Implement strategies to ensure overall timber security for timber grown and harvested from MWG managed lands. Provides support and recommends appropriate action on land use issues such as easements, rights-of-way, boundary lines, seismic requests, leases, and other miscellaneous items within the specific geographic region. Education, Experience, and Skills Required Bachelor of Science Degree in Forest Management or a closely related field and/or five years professional experience in forestry management and/or timber procurement. Strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with common business computer software, that may include spreadsheet, word-processing and presentation software. Must be a dependable team player with strong ethics.
